Requirements

Community service is an integral part of a Change Agent’s learning experiences and offers meaningful opportunities for members to engage with individuals of their communities on a deeper level and understand the true concept of giving back.

  • All interested women who are 18 years of age or older are open for membership.
  • Young ladies who are between the ages of 13-17 may be sponsored by an adult to attend all activities.
  • Interview for membership is REQUIRED.
  • One of For Brown Girls' missions is to set the standard of leaders, who are dedicated to the improvement of their society.
  • We want to encourage potential members to become proactive members of not only in their community, but also the surrounding communities. This an important component of nurturing a healthy and abundant relationship within For Brown Girl, Inc. and your community.
  • Active community involvement is a MUST. This incites personal growth, builds camaraderie, encourages civic engagement, and offers insight into the challenges our communities face.

Expectations

Developing a deeper understanding of our communities' workings and infrastructure is the first step in making a difference. This is a difference every member of the For Brown Girls' community is capable of producing.

  • When working with internal and external organizations, members should act professionally and with integrity.

  • Service commitments must be maintained. If circumstances prevent a member from completing the service to which she initially committed, the member should make the best effort to find a substitute.

  • While service is a required activity, members will select particular, leadership-building service opportunities based on their interests and become apart of that committee. However, they assume full responsibility for the actions they choose.

Goals

We envision a world in which all girls and young women of color, regardless of ethnicity, income level, or social status, are nurtured and empowered to reach their fullest potential. While addressing effective ways that foster hopefulness for the future, we want to instill a vision of what can be and draw others forward in a positive way. We are leaders. We lead with wisdom, knowledge, and good judgment. We envision making a difference in our community while bridging partnerships and creating a legacy.
