About Our Program

INTRODUCING our new exercise program, "Through Thick and Thin Fitness Journey!" If your goal is to get healthier in life, you can’t go wrong with a commitment with becoming a healthier YOU! Our workout program is FREE TO THE PUBLIC! For Brown Girls, Inc. believes that mental and physical health is fundamentally linked. There are multiple associations between mental health and chronic physical conditions that significantly impact people’s quality of life. Understanding the links between mind and body is the first step in developing strategies to reduce the incidence of co-existing conditions and support those already living with mental illnesses and chronic physical conditions.

Social Determinants of Health

LOOK AT MISSISSIPPI STATISTICS! Determinants of health are factors that contribute to a person's current state of health. These factors may be biological, socioeconomic, psychosocial, behavioral, or social in nature. Social determinants of health include such things as education, income, occupation, and access to health care. Chronic diseases rates are frequently elevated among socioeconomically disadvantaged groups and some minority populations, including blacks and persons with low incomes and education levels. Further, within Mississippi, social determinants of health differ between racial/ethnic groups. (Mississippi Department of Health, 2017)

The purpose of this initiative is to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities. MEN and WOMEN are welcomed. This workout program will be coached by fitness guru and our CFO, Lawren Long! Our goal for "Through Thick and Thin Fitness Journey" is to promote optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure healthy lifestyles. Mississippi has the highest percentage of non-whites (40%) among all 50 states and the population is generally poorer and less educated than the rest of the nation.  LET'S GET HEALTHY, MISSISSIPPI.
